BRIEF INTRODUCTION:
The Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), Bhubaneswar stands as a beacon of excellence in Ayurvedic research and healthcare. It is established in 1972 as Regional Research Institute (Ayurveda) by amalgamating Mobile Clinical Research Unit (MCRU), Bhubaneswar, Central Research Unit (CRU), Puri, and Survey of Medicinal Plant Unit (SMPU), Bolangir. Regional Research Institute (RRI) Ayurveda was upgraded as Central Research Institute-Ayurveda on 1979 being inaugurated by the then Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Mr. Rabi Ray. Then the CRI-Ayurveda was upgraded as National Research Institute for Ayurvedic Drug Development (NRIADD) in 2009. The National Research Institute for Ayurvedic Drug Development (NRIADD) is then shifted to its new complex at Bharatpur, Near Kalinga Studio, Bhubaneswar. Durng 2016 the National Research Institute for Ayurvedic Drug Development (NRIADD) has been renamed as Central Ayurveda Research Institute for Hepatobiliary Disorders (CARIHD). Then during 2021, Central Ayurveda Research Institute for Hepatobiliary Disorders (CARIHD) has again been renamed as Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI) and is now functioning in its Bharatpur complex to serve the need of the public.
Mandate of the Institute
CARI is entrusted with the vital mandate of conducting research in various fields focusing on hepatobiliary diseases, addressing a critical need in public health.

To develop scientific evidence in Clinical Research on various field focusing on hepatobiliary diseases.
Mission:
- To develop this peripheral institute of CCRAS into a model research institute for undertaking, coordinating and promoting clinical research in Ayurveda.
- To strengthen research and treatment in Ayurveda utilizing its classical treatment procedures viz. Panchkarma, Ksharsutra, Agni karma & Raktamokshana.
- To support diagnosis with advanced technology using Pathological, biochemical and radiological investigations.
- To impart Panchkarma Technician Training Course for promotion & propagation of Ayurveda with a view to generate new job opportunities.

- NABH Accredited hospital: This Institute is NABH Accredited Hospital since March 2023. Ensuring high standards of healthcare delivery and patient safety.
- GMP-Certified Pharmacy: Manufacturing Ayurvedic medicines for needs of patients of hospital through OPD and IPD.
- 50-Bedded IPD Hospital: Providing inpatient care with a focus on holistic wellness, provisions for separate general wards, AC and non-AC cabins for both male and female.
- Panchakarma Therapy: Fully equipped to deliver traditional Ayurvedic bio cleansing therapies.
- Regular OPD services: Offering accessible healthcare to the community, special consideration for senior citizen and underprivileged people.
